MediClick’s Verdone Stars on SaaS Panel

Overwhelming attendance demonstrates platform’s expanding importance

Raleigh, N.C. – July 7, 2008 – MediClick Vice President of Development and Operations Tony Verdone recently served as a panelist on Local Tech Wire’s “SaaS Roadshow,” discussing the increasingly popular Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery platform.

Presented by LocalTechWire.com and co-hosted by the Carolina SaaS user group in Durham, N.C., the SaaS Roadshow was forced to cap registration after more than 200 attendees enrolled to hear about the successes, challenges and opportunities afforded by the SaaS model. In addition to Verdone, Ryan Allis, co-founder and CEO of iContact, Dave Anderson, co-founder and chief architect of Peopleclick, and Don Sturdivant, chief technology officer of Square 1 Bank shared their experience. Gary Griffiths, former president of WebEx, served as moderator. Producers of Software-as-a-Service – formerly known as application service providers or ASPs – deliver Web-based, subscription applications in a variety of fields. Offering faster installation and lower up-front costs than traditional software, SaaS allows companies to minimize the internal resources required. MediClick has been utilizing the SaaS model to serve hospitals and IDNs since 2001.

“The beauty of the SaaS model is that you always have the most current technology at your fingertips,” said Verdone, “eliminating the probable issue that by the time you purchase and install a piece of traditional software, it may already be out of date.”

“The shared expertise you gain from working with common code is invaluable,” he continued. “At MediClick, we’ve created roundtables to facilitate the sharing of best practices among
users to help all our clients become more efficient.”

Panelists also emphasized the “service” element as one of the hallmarks of the format, noting that “the key word is ‘trust.’ Users need to trust their data is secure; that it’s being backed up,” said Verdone. “With standards and evaluations like the SAS 70 audits, the industry at large is growing their trust of the SaaS model.”

The crowd of 200 certainly seemed to trust that Software-as-a-Service has a bright future.
